KINGS WALK (Caminito del Rey)

Full details on this fantastic walk can be seen online, search for Caminito del Rey, where you can book in advance to plan your trip.

This spectacular and unique walk is round the mountain face at the El Chorro gorge suitable for anyone over 8 yrs of age not to be missed but take your camera.

Walking

Taken by Steve & Tania at ArdalesThis is an excellent area for walking. Walk above the house or in the village and climb the steps up to the hermitage Church built into the side of the mountain behind the village.

Taken by Steve & Tania at El TorcalA short but fantastic drive away (20mins) you can walk amongst the many lakes at Ardales and the pine forests and gorge at 'El Chorro'.

In the other direction from us (30mins) visit 'El Torcal' where you can lose yourself in the prehistoric stone 'cheese rings' near Antequera where the views are just stunning.

Trains

Trains are available to Malaga from Alora or for those a little more adventurous drive to Bobadilla and get the train to Malaga, where you can not only experience the beautiful views of the Ardales National Park and the stunning El Choro gorge but also the unique experience of the train cutting through the mountains.

Horse Riding

This is a wonderful riding country and we could direct you to suitable riding schools.

Climbing

'El chorro is known as one of THE climbing sites in Spain. There is also climbing on the mountain right behind our village (The Penibeticas)

Parapente - Capital Del Vuelo

Valle de Abdalajis is known as the 'Capital of Flight' and the Mountain behind the village has suitable take off points, there is also a Parapente Club in the village.

For those with partners not so keen on jumping off a mountain they are able to sit here by the Pool and watch with interest, as we often do with a glass or two.

Cycling

Finca La Mariposa is situated 1km from the centre of Valle De Abdalajis, there are 3 cycle routes from the village, one of which goes right past the Finca. Those who wish can of course just set out over one of the many different tracks around us, all are quiet and very picturesque. For more information Visit www.valledeabdalajis.com.

Birdwatching

Taken by Steve and Tania at El TorcalThis area is rich in birdlife, at nearby 'El Chorro' you can see Herons, Egrets, Kingfishers and Eagles amongst others.

'El Torcal' is famous for its Eagles and Griffon Vultures.Or you can sit on the terrace and see circling Vultures and others birds, too numerous to mention.

View fom AppartmentThis area is a feast of colour throughout the year. From the burnt amber of the fields in summer to the green bursting out among the oranges of the dried earth in Autumn.

In Spring you will see the various colours of the new growth and the blossom on the trees. The Mountains throughout the year give a variety of colour.

Sightseeing - Where do we start?

This region is probably the best driving country we have seen, the roads are very quiet and the scenery is awesome.

Below are just a few of the places easily accessible.

Antequera. 20 mins away. Walk amongst the old narrow streets and marvel at the architecture up above the shops. The town dates back some 4500 years. Just on the outskirts is a new Shopping mall 'La Veronica' for those who love shopping.

Malaga 45 mins drive, or catch the train and wander around the old town, walk the castle walls or take a stroll along the front.

Granada 80mins drive, a must see is the Alhambra Palace and the tranquillity of the Generalife water gardens.

El Torcal National Park Nr Antequera fantastic Rock formations formed on the seabed in the Jurassic period. Take one of the walks around the park and see some stunning views as well as looking at the rocks and seeing some strange shapes which everyone views differently.

El Chorro and Ardales Paraje Natural Famed for its gorge and sheer rock faces. See the climbers as you travel through, or walk amongst the pine forests or maybe a stroll along the shore of one of the many lakes. Do not forget to bring extra film you will surely need it.

Lobo Park located on the road to Antequera offering wolves, dingos and other animals in a semi natural environment. Guided tours, petting zoo, cafeteria and horse riding. Weekend bbq's and Howl nights. Entry fee: €6.50

Ronda 50 mins drive, see the wonderful bridge that spans the gorge connecting the two parts of the town.

Cordoba about 60 mins drive very picturesque Spanish town.
